But that might be something to think about. Today's source of frustration does reveal a source of opportunity for those who want to build up a little traffic for their sites.
There is just not a lot of good quality mathematical imagery available online, with creative commons licensing. That was a problem today, until I said "to Hell with it" and gave up, being unwilling to sacrifice my entire day just to the decoration of a Bluesky profile.

Again, it doesn't look like its from anything very deep, and I'd love to be able to hold onto something P.C. related

because John Houseman was a role model to us all, but the colors weren't working.

Oh, well.

Seriously, the sun is shining, the Winter is over, and I just want to go outside.
It has next to nothing to do with what I'll be writing about, but whatever. Bing is not giving me good images, today.

My current banner image is a screen capture from the Paper Chase, 1973.

Any resemblance between my teaching methods and those of Prof. Kingsfield is purely intentional.

Sort of cute, but it doesn't sit well against the banner, does it? It's a 2-d image of an immersion of a Klein bottle into three dimensional Euclidean space.

We are experiencing an assault on science unparalleled by anything I’ve seen in my life. It’s not one issue or another anymore, the entire institution is under attack by the most powerful individuals in the country.

This Friday, where will you be?

I'm just a short walk away from a Metra station, so how could I possibly miss this one? I'll be next to the Calder in the Federal Plaza, at 230 S. Dearborn in Chicago.

Hoping we'll do this more than once, because ignorance won't go down without a fight.

This is very short notice, the 7th only being five days away. If we have more than one event like this, and people have more time to really prepare, imagine the public presentations that could be produced and the minds that could be changed.

We could do more than just chant.

We could tell people about what is being discovered, give them peeks into a world they haven't even imagined, blow their minds and give them a more solid sense of what they're on the verge of losing. That will hold somebody's attention.

If we do that, how do the MAGAs compete?

What do they come back with, other than repetitive talking points, and crazy sounding rants about conspiracy theories? That stuff is boring. Outside of the Internet, it drives people away far more often than it draws them in.

Let us play to our strengths, and give the truth every advantage.

Yes, I've finally made the move out to the suburbs, where during this last summer, I finally lived the dream: I mowed my own lawn. Not my family's lawn, not the lawn of somebody who was paying me, my lawn.

It was such a simple little chore, but as strange as this might sound, it was so satisfying.
