A UK doctor stated that up to 10% of ground coffee may contain cockroach particles due to bean harvesting, processing, and storage. These particles have tropomyosin, a protein also found in shellfish. Another reason to drink specialty coffee.

Most decafs are made using solvents like methylene chloride to strip caffeine. But methods like the Swiss Water® Process use only water to preserve flavor without chemicals. If you want to avoid chemicals, knowing how your decaf is made matters.

Decaf espresso can taste BETTER than regular espresso. Most people assume decaf espresso is dull, but not when you try a Swiss Water® Processed. It has rich chocolate notes, a bold crema, and zero bitterness—way better than some regular espressos.

Most Coffee Is Stale Before You Buy It.
Supermarket coffee can sit on shelves for months before you even open the bag. By the time you brew it, the flavors and aromas are long gone. Colipse Espresso Blend is roasted only after you order.

Blind taste tests prove people prefer Robusta blends. The problem? The name "Robusta" still turns people away. Switching from Arabica to Robusta isn’t simple, but it might be more profitable and sustainable in the long run.

Colipse Espresso Blend is a medium-dark roast, way better than anything at the grocery store. We use Bourbon, Ethiopian Heirloom, and SL28 beans from Uganda, Ethiopia, and Kenya. These beans are grown, picked, dried by hand, and roasted to order.

Three must-do things in Bali are the Mount Batur sunrise tour (the one that starts at 1 am), the Ogoh-Ogoh parade (if you're there in March), and trying local coffee. Balinese coffee is our favorite—sweet, spicy, fruity, and good with any brewing method.

You pay five times more for Kona coffee (which is the same Typica Arabica variety as, for example, Costa Rican and Ethiopian beans) not because it's better, but because it's made in the U.S. (under U.S. minimum wage laws) and because of marketing.

Some of the best beans, like the Panama Carmen Estate 1900 Caturra Natural, can score 90+ on the SCAA scale. At Colipse, while we may not have award-winning lots, we do offer washed Colombia Caturra and Red Catuai from Café del Macizo's Tolima beans.

Single-origin coffee means traceability, not better quality. While it's true that some single-origin coffees blow others out of the water, there are many delicious blends meticulously profiled to taste great and offer excellent value for money.

With a larger budget, would you opt for an espresso or drip maker? Each has its pros and cons. One offers intense flavor (but requires practice). Other is easier and makes more coffee (but isn't as rich).

Cold brew and iced coffee are not the same. Cold brew is steeped in room temperature water for 12-24 hours. Iced coffee is hot-brewed and then poured over ice. Which one do you prefer?

Struggling to find the best coffee beans for cold brew? While there's no single "best" brand that will suit everyone's taste, some brands are better than others. We recommend trying specialty-grade beans that are freshly roasted to order.

A 3-kilogram lot of Elida Geisha Honey Aguacatillo coffee from Lamastus Family Estates sold for $40,554 at a private auction, with a per-kilogram price of $13,518. This raises the question of whether a single cup is worth the potential $200 price.

Breakfast blend coffee is a marketing term, not a strict definition. It suggests a light to medium roast with bright acidity and delicate flavors like citrus or floral notes. A nice choice for a morning cup.

Some coffee corporations label their coffee "organic" to attract premium-paying consumers, but they don't pay the farmers more. Even though the organic coffee market is expected to grow to $12.9 billion by 2030, farmer's income has not changed in the past 20 years.
