Travis Head's 123 off 83 is an astonishing innings given everything else that had gone on.

From the email from ASPROM, I read the sad news of the passing of Professor Roger Ling, Emeritus Professor of Classical Art and Archaeology at University of Manchester.

Anyone engaging with the archaeology of Pompeii should read his two volume work on The Insula of the Menander - a superb study.

A thread about the 'sponge on a stick'.

The only ancient sources appear to be from Seneca and Martial (well he would mention it wouldn't he?)

Note that word xylospongium in that article I posted up yesterday - doesn't exist. Not in either source, not in Lewis & Short or the PHI Latin Texts.

Call me old-fashioned but I think England deserve a better warm-up match than just a friendly against other England players.

In 1974-5 they played 4 F/C matches against States, and 5 other matches.

AI-generated nazi and racist songs are "flooding" Spotify.

There are many alternatives to Spotify, which offer just as much choice (in better audio quality) and reward musicians more fairly. Buying physical albums and CDs? Even better.

Staying on Spotify is no different to staying on X.

Really nice to be asked to appear on BBC Radio 3’s New Music Show over the weekend, to talk about three tracks I love as part of their new 'Listen List' spot.

Listen again here: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002lnkd
