Silly idea:

For Nov. 7, 2028, Amtrak does an excursion on the Borealis using equipment from Milwaukee Road preservers, like 261's stuff, as a 90th anniversary event.

The 345 excites me because it addresses two problems I have with Woodlane P&R:
-Lack of non-commuter routes besides the Gold Line and 323
-Time-prohibitive airport/Blue Line access (upwards of 1.5 hours)

It's a good starting point for transforming it into more than just a park and ride.

Using back-of-envelope math, that rebate would've been able to provide ten times more e-bikes than electric cars, using the federal $7500 electric car tax credit as a reference. I'm very disappointed about how limited the program is, given how cost-effective it is for decarbonizing short trips.

And no doubt, if by some miracle we do get commuter or regional rail proposals back on the table in 10, 20, 30 years, they'll face the consequences of this. Tag on an extra billion dollars to rebuild stations and the maintenance yard and bam, perfect ammo for lead-brained politicians.

Even to a hopeless cynic like myself, it's a bit much. It ain't even neglect anymore, it's spite. It's been that way for a while but I would've hoped that a supposedly progressive state wouldn't be so reactionary.

Always great to see that any time I have even a small hope for the future, it gets ruthlessly crushed.

New cars also aren’t expected to arrive until 2026, at the earliest. We’re in for a rough ride

We were set to receive passenger rail service back for the first time since the 80s in Duluth, but the man who took tens of billions in subsidies to do nothing is likely going to stop that.

The NP West Duluth Elevated Station was what prompted my interest in Duluth’s forgotten stations, and I found that apparently Northern Pacific had another depot less than 100 meters from the elevated. I’ll have to check my sources and find pictures but good lord that’s excessive. 😭

One such suburban station was Endion, once located on the lakeshore South of South 21st Avenue, where I-35 now blemishes the city.

Since then it’s been “moved” to Canal Park, I don’t even know how you do something like that. 😭😭😭
