For other work, I recently posted a piece going long on some thoughts I've been having re: AI, art, thought in general. I found writing about this stuff very edifying.
Thought Libations
There is an old adage, often attributed to Ernest Hemingway (though, he likely borrowed it from his influences), that goes something like this: “Writing is easy; you sit down at the typewriter, and op...

Since it's Neil Young's 80th birthday today, here's my favourite song of his. Like all the best Neil Young songs, it's very simple, but is transformed by these perfect descents into the minor key. It also just so happens to share a name with the best Pink Floyd song.

Silent Hill f is a perfect example of what happens when a game isn't weighed down by established lore and canon; it can actually tell a new story. It's the anthology Silent Hill was meant to be before the series became increasingly obsessed with its past (and that damn cult) after Silent Hill 2.
Silent Hill f pays off something that was established in Silent Hill 2, but then forgotten: the promise of this series as an anthology. @elijahgonzalez.bsky.social on how the latest game frees itself of lore and plot-specific baggage to tell its own very good, but still very Silent Hill story.

Been reading Homer's Odyssey for the first time, and I find it very interesting how our concept of protagonists has changed. Nowadays, many scoff (or find it uninteresting) when a heroic character is overtly privileged. Yet, not only is Odysseus a king, but Athena essentially wipes his ass for him

Aftersun, NOPE, and Drive My Car would be in my running. Honorable mentions to TITANE, I Saw the TV Glow, and Another Round.
One Battle After Another has been getting a lot of “best movie of the decade” talk, and I’m inclined to agree but I’m curious — what’s the competition?
