The Trump admin has been invoking an obscure section of a McCarthy-era law to revoke hundreds of student visas, mostly on the grounds of the students' expressed views.

“This is a scary time,” said @cogs-uelocal896.bsky.social. “It is also a time to stand for justice and against those in power.”

A threat to one is a threat to all.
Our local university's complicity with federal policies that actively threaten grad workers is appalling.

We demanded a 25% raise (12.5% per year, over two years)

They proposed a 6% raise (3% per year, over two years)

We are the first public sector union in the State of Iowa to receive a proposed raise above the State's legal minimum since 2017.

But that's NOT enough!

🧵Thanks to everyone who showed up at our first bargaining meeting last week!

Graduate workers had a lot of questions for the Board of Regents, who didn't even bother even showing up.

The union makes us strong!

Nearly 100 people showed up for the first bargaining meeting to determine the 2025-2027 contract for TAs and RAs. Our union is only growing.
