UE Local 1177 members spoke to the @chicagotribune.com about the proposed $85 billion merger between Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern railroads. The merger would create a monopoly on about half of U.S. freight shipping, potentially driving up costs.

www.chicagotribune.com/2025/12/01/u...
Union Pacific says rail merger could unclog Chicago. Critics worry about costs and traffic tie-ups.
Union Pacific’s plan could mean less congestion and pollution, but neighborhoods near tracks could experience more commuting delays and noise.
