This is truly remarkable if you're interested in the study of consciousness. The list of animals that can pass the mirror test is fairly short, and includes the most intelligent of our non-human species. Here is accidental (and very cute) proof that cats can pass it too (attribution metro.co.uk):

Doctors use the term "psychogenic" to mean psychological; a problem that doesn't originate from organ damage but from thoughts or emotional state. Yet those all come from the wetware of our brain. Just because we don't yet have the tools to debug our software doesn't mean we run on fairy dust
