This is what I’m sending to my MP about the Canada Post strike and the proposed changes to services- I encourage you to do the same.
Hello [MP’s Name] My name is [my government name] and I am a constituent of yours in [government address]. I am writing to you because I am extremely displeased and seriously concerned with the proposed changes your government is planning to make to Canada Post. As a millennial, many of the people in power assume that I would be either in favour of the changes or perhaps think nothing of it at all. On the contrary, I am very upset. This is not what I voted for. I, like many more leftward voters, were convinced to vote for the party you represent in order to AVOID changes like this. I deeply believe that door-to-door delivery is absolutely critical for many of my elderly, disabled, and hard working blue collar neighbours. Its loss also represents a further effort to privatize government services which, due to the many natural factors of our country’s size and scope must necessarily run at a loss. We cannot expect the private sector to treat people with the same quality of service and assume that they will not charge us for the privilege. This is wrong, and it brings me great sadness to see that your party, which campaigns on leftward, progressive motion, is so backwards on this. Please respond to me at your earliest convenience and discuss what you will do to help keep good union work in the hands of unionized workers, and mail in the hands of our hard working families.
