and I hate when I point out subtle antiblackness I feel like I'm killing the mood. it's genuinely so. so upsetting that it's just normalized to treat black people as political weapons and jokes. not as real people.

you people pretend to listen to us until it's inconvenient to you and makes you think about how you view black people and culture. i hate how performative and isolating these "safe spaces" are. it's safe for whites, not black folks.

George Herriman is arguably one of the first major black artists in comics.

And the only reason for that is because NO ONE KNEW HE WAS BLACK.

He was light skinned enough to be white passing & hid that fact into old age so that he WOULD be able to continue drawing largely due to rampant racism.
