I fired up CC today and asked it to inspect both branches, and within the constraints of the lean branch, adopt the same practices, abstractions and setups.

I think that the joke was a mistake but at the very least they should have allowed you to make it right. It’s all about money at the end of the day, and at the level of a triple A game, the stakes are too high for them to even give you a chance.

I find it a useful tool to reduce verbosity and keep my code DRY with minimal effort.

Do you use anything like onion/clean architecture? I find that the necessity to map between DTOs and the various layers of abstraction brings this need up.
