NICE! Man, this thing had quite the beefy soundchip for its time and place. If your dad has any Phillips SAA 1099 chips still lying around I'll take them off his hands. 😂 It's kinda crazy that I'm discovering this stuff for the first time in my 40s. I would have loved Chuckie Egg as a kid.

Progress on the Phillips SAA 1099 soundchip. Wrote a minute loop that will be expanded to a full song. The 6 channels on this thing are awesome. Having two noise channels is really handy for percussion. I'm learning as I go so I'm still exploring the possibilities. #retrocomputing

Working on a tune for the SAA 1099 soundchip. Thanks to the dude who put a tracker specifically for this chip on GitHub.

Revisiting some stuff I wrote a while back for the Sam Coupé. I have never seen this computer in my life. I have its Phillips SAA1099 soundchip now, though.

Working on a new tune for Commodore 64. Almost done. Gonna throw it on the card @samcoupe.com sent me when I'm done.

Here it is with the original, default setup in all of its bass-less glory, proving my accusations are not baseless. The ZXTT saved my butt on this project, so thanks my man. If you figure out why this is I'm all ears. The original Arkos Tracker YM file is configured to the 1.73400 Speccy frequency.

Playing one of my tunes through the RC2014 AY-3-8910 soundcard. HUGE shout-out to my man @samcoupe.com !! The ZXTT solved 95% of my problems with the card, the only thing I have to work on now is file formats. YM2MYM doesn't quite do the trick but I found some trackers that might do the job.

Soldered together a GI SP0256-AL2 speech synthesis soundcard for the RC2014. This thing is so cool! Hello, world!

Somebody posted my SNES track to the RM Brown subreddit. It got significantly less likes than Tom MacDonald. If this isn't the strongest message for me to quit doing music forever I don't know what is 😂😆😂

I put a bunch of RM Brown drops into a Super Nintendo and made a tune out of them. SNES + RM Brown = SN Brown

Nevermind, I found the problem. I have one dead SID chip (RIP) and one dead SwinSID (good riddance, that thing was terrible compared to the ArmSID or the real deal).

Anywho, thank you so much! This is awesome!

Seriously though, would a Phillips SAA1099 module be possible on the RC2014?
March 26, 2025 at 9:52 PM
@samcoupe.com grabbed the SID module for RC2014! Slotted an original 6581 in and ran the BASIC code. Not getting anything. Any suggestions for troubleshooting? I'm sure it's something at my end, this looks really well built.

Also, any plans on making a Phillips SAA1099 module?

Successful test for the emulated AY-3-8910 RC2014 soundcard. Cool.

PicoTracker project got made. It works. Got a few RC2014 soundchip modules coming and then I'm done with soldering for a while. When all that solder cools it's time to write music until my bladder gives out. #chiptune

IT WORKS! The RC2014 works. I just soldered an entire 8-bit computer from scratch. I'm in shock and disbelief that I didn't mess anything up. I just put in an order for PCBs for multiple soundchips. It's time to write music for every soundchip I can find for this thing. There's quite a few 😊

Just finished soldering an 8-bit computer, the RC2014. So glad I got a Z80 processor as they have been discontinued. Fingers crossed I didn't mess this up. Waiting on an FTDI cable and some wire cutters. Because it's modular I can slot a cornucopia of soundchips into this thing. If it works? Huge.

The backs of the cards have fun facts about the Alf Cinematic Universe. They were mad hungry when they wrote this shit.
February 4, 2025 at 12:18 AM
You see, Alf likes eating cats. Wait, what?

Sounds like your girlfriend shops at PacSun. That shit is expensive. Don't be an asshole.
