Rereading Sontag for a piece I’m writing, and came across this incredible section. Denying access to ideas is as much about group/identity formation as it is an attempt to punish others. A lot of parallels here in the harm reduction/food assistance space.

Unbelievably proud of this piece I wrote reconceptualizing the crackdowns on open-air drug use and homelessness through the lens of Sontag’s work on disease and metaphor. Spent 2 years researching and speaking to people in Philly/US at large for it. Will be on my substack of not accepted anywhere
