Depending on its size and how it's tied up, a good shove and a boat hook might do it. But, there are plenty that don't need keys or with keys in them! And, a decent number of folks dying to give theirs away because they're hemorrhaging dock fees.

Ah, thanks!

This might not be answerable in post format, but, what would be the significance of that? What's the accusation being leveled at Mizrahis here?

"One shudders to think..." It's incredible how much opposition to him leans on speculation. "You don't want to vote for a sexual harasser? His history just hasn't come out yet."

Yes, I'm afraid I'm not sure what this thread is about anymore.

The "like" is an important part of that sentence, and the sentence before that one is the one that responds to what you're saying. But it seems to me you're looking for answers at a higher level of complexity and erudition than this platform can handle. You might consider a theology course.

It's most accurate to say that a proper understanding of the conversations addressing the question requires many years of study beyond what either of us has, and that the article you linked to is quite a good intro.

The details have been a matter of some discussion for a while now.
November 1, 2025 at 7:44 PM
Oh! OK OK one more word to reply to that. No no, there's no "they just don't believe yet" going on. It's just not particularly relevant whether or not a Jew believes in God. Lots of happily atheist Jews intending to stay that way!

And they're not the terms that are operative for defining the boundaries of the group. That's an unsatisfying response, but I have to sign off bc 2AM 🙃

Ah, I missed the beginning. An ethnoreligion is what the most common description is, which doesn't rly clear things up. But part of what it implies is that the distinction btwn ethnically/culturally/religiously isn't necessarily meaningful in Jewish terms. They often but not always overlap.
November 1, 2025 at 6:20 AM
Gotcha. There might be texts that phrase it that way, but the way to think about ceasing to become a Jew if you worship another god isn't as punishment, rather as leaving. All those other things--you can be a lawbreaking Jew, but you haven't left.

Hey, as the link you pasted above explains, it was not verbatim. But in addition to that, Halakha is not the Torah and is very explicitly, and by definition, human-made.

I don't have much of a clue what this conversation is about so I'm loath to stick my foot in it, nevertheless I'll wade in to say it's worth nitpicking that Judaism doesn't care what gods you *do not* worship.

Well shit, v curious to know what the original post that got deleted was.

This one won't help you with any science, but maybe you'll get something else you like out of it...dm for pdf if you like! And stick me on your list of people to alert when your silly piddly little book is done. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

I generally take the same approach! I re-posted this because a slew of U.S. agencies just opened accounts and it's fair to expect a slew of propaganda that's bad for everyone to disseminate. This list is limited to those, and again you can see them one at a time: bsky.app/profile/did:...
