Bookish, treeish, peripatetic, frequently salt water adjacent.
1.75 miles. 40F and raining? Definitely running in shorts weather. Please admire this very persistent rose with me. (I was Britten-pilled at a young age and have the setting of “There Is No Rose of Such Virture” from Ceremony of Carols stuck in my head.)

Brains periodically need to be taken out and hung up in the sunshine until they get their acts together. The fact that this is physically impossible explains a lot of what is wrong with humans.

Please accept a picture of the best orange boy: he isn’t unduly burdened by brains.

Getting back into the swing of things, post holiday, trying to figure out what is convalescence and what is just a prolonged break from running, but either way glad for the cool and quiet of a morning run. (Picture is not from my run—sigh)

1.75 miles. Still feeling convalescent but a whole lot better than even a week ago.

1.4 very slow miles: first run in nearly a month. It felt like coming home to myself.

Dante thinks he might need a look out.

Before. Just because people need to see the tiny, sick, one-eyed kitten that wanted to jump on and off of everything and everyone.

So I discovered one of the worse ways for gallbladders to go wrong. Two surgeries and four days in the hospital later, I am now free of gallstones where they shouldn’t be, and a gallbladder. I’m no longer the color of a daffodil or trying to digest my own liver. I will miss the view from my room.

Dear Quiara's body,
Please, knock it off…
Uh, not like that…not like that, and definitely not like that either.

Sending good wishes and cat pictures. None of the cats approve of this bullshit.

Two weeks more or less with no running posts? Oh dear. Running has been happening. And raccoon spotting. And getting jump scared by a yard full of mannequins dressed as classic horror movie monsters. In my defense it was dark and suddenly there was a human shape Right There.

Before yesterday took a turn for the barfy, I had one of the loveliest runs: 6 miles along the Ruston Way trail, and I met a very sweet corgi named Max who is my new best friend.

Dante is stunned.

4.7 miles of running and walking. I have a 10k at the end of October and currently feel wildly unprepared. But I shall get there… powered by cappuccino—the undefeated empress of recovery beverages.

3 miles: watching the sun rise, and enjoying the cool.

I love running for the unexpected discoveries. Today I dragged myself up a hill and found a butt plug hedge.

3 miles yesterday morning, that felt good despite being unable to find my running headphones. My brain filled in the lack of tunes with “The Impression That I Get,” a criminally catchy song that I loathe.

After two weeks of garbage runs and involuntary rest days because of the wretched cold, I am back! Joy! Rapture!

A tiny painting during a meeting.
September 12, 2025 at 5:25 PM
Irritably experimenting with resting as a way to stop being sick. Seems fake, but I’m desperate. Have a tiny “stuck in meetings“ doodle of a painting instead in lieu of a running report.

Brains are jerks. My hairdresser has a sign on their mirror that says “no one is mad at you.” We agree that someday we will believe that.

In the meantime, this perfect being would follow you around telling you secrets and giving you tiny kisses given half a chance.

2 more miles. My sinuses have gone nuts, but so far whatever is going on is staying out of my lungs. Between humidity and sinus nonsense, it was a bit like running with my head in a bucket of water, but it was still a nice run.

Important question: does this cat have enough crinkly toys? He says no.

One of those runs where my energy and form and plans all matched up and running felt effortless. And I got to check out my neighbors’ grapes.

Today marks the return of sunrise runs. It’s going to be too hot again today, but my short run felt good. Score one for the reluctant early bird. I’ve been waking up at 4:30 regularly whether I want to or not. (I don’t.) This is minor compensation.
