But abolishing the filibuster makes it that much easier for horrible legislation like the OBBB Act to become law. Reform of the filibuster is desperately needed, but tanking the system entirely only helps regressive policies become law.

To be clear, I think the silent filibuster is a gross bastardization of the senate rules that has no business existing. If you are a Senator and you want to hold up a bill you oughta have the guts to stand up and speak until you can’t speak no more.

One of the responses to this article that I’ve seen is “Sherrod lost, I don’t want to hear it” which ignores the fact that he lost by 3.5 points when Kamala lost OH by 11. He got over 100k more votes than Kamala Harris in a year where many Democrats (like Casey, Slotkin, Rosen) underperformed her.

A lot of people are saying “Sherrod lost, I don’t want to hear it” and ignoring the fact that he lost by 3.5 points in a year when the top of the ticket lost Ohio by 11. He got over 100,000 more votes than Kamala Harris in a year where many Democrats (like Casey, Slotkin, Rosen) underperformed her.

We need a DNC Chair who knows how to build and maintain a party infrastructure, and I don’t see any other candidate who has actually done that other than Ben Wikler.

And while that’s not to say that they are strong entirely because of their chairs, the fact remains that their state chairs were able to do what other states couldn’t. Wisconsin was the Democratic Party’s biggest success story last year. We lost the state by one point, and held a key senate seat.

North Carolina had Mark Robinson bringing down the Republican ticket. Wisconsin didn’t have any of that. And it not only had the smallest swing, it was the only swing state to be within a point.

What North Carolina and Wisconsin have in common is they have extremely strong state parties.
