This preserved the ability to maintain plausible deniability about any such plot.

This is in line with the way I have reconstructed it. The last part of the deal to Crooks broke down because only some USSS personnel were in on the plot. After the shots, the USSS personnel not in on it did what they saw as their job, and took Crooks out. The USSS plotters knew this would happen.

Because this regime is the latent symptom, not the root cause of today’s misery. It started decades ago with Goldwater, Reagan, Norquist and later Gingrich. All the while, centrist Democrats cowered and accommodated, pushing the Overton window continually rightward. And now here they go again.

Oh yeah, I’ve been seeing it all day, especially on Substack. They spin this as some sort of 3-D chess, instead of another working class sellout, and when we call them on it, we get tut-tutted about “purity tests” and circular firing squads. It’s maddening. I am so sick of neoliberals.
