The Defenders of the Eastern Slopes (DOES) said in a news release Friday that the protest is “peaceful” and has two goals: to protect a spawning ground for threatened bull trout and to stop the clear-cut logging of the Upper Highwood and Loomis Creek watersheds.

Heath care negotiations update: Minister Horner

President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance Nate Horner issued the following statement about negotiations between AHS and HSAA:

“Ongoing mediation between Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) has resulted in the third-party mediator issuing recommended terms of settlement for a new collective agreement. “The mediator’s recommendation is being provided to the parties after months of hard work and continued negotiations. “Both parties have agreed to bring the recommendations forward to a ratification vote. “The recommendations demonstrate a clear commitment by the parties to work collaboratively to arrive at reasonable outcomes. “I want to thank the union leadership and Alberta Health Services who have worked tirelessly to get to this point. “I continue to recognize the partnership between the two parties as a testament to the importance of our health care professionals and the services they provide Albertans, and our health care system. “Importantly, I want to thank HSAA members including paramedics, physiotherapists, respiratory therapists and all the other dedicated front-line health care workers that provide exceptional care to Albertans every day. “We look forward to results of the ratification vote in the coming days. “Out of respect for the ratification process, I have no further comment at this time.”

AHS will be cancelling all elective surgeries for a minimum of two weeks if we strike. Heard it tonight in the town hall straight from AUPEs mouth. everywhere will be cancelled “from north to south” because elective surgeries aren’t life and limb. the emergency surgeries will still be happening, just not electives. We make $26-36 an hour as LPNs and it’s time we get a fair agreement. we are 7th in the country for pay with the highest scope and we are being so taken advantage of. AB RNs are #1 paid in the country by comparison. There’s no reason why AB LPNs should not also be #1 in the country. AHS keeps saying we don’t do the same as an RN and basically saying we aren’t important… if we aren’t essential than why cancel elective surgeries? I agree it’s irresponsible to have elective knee surgeries happening during job action and I think this will be making the public very very mad. The surgeons will be so pissed too… wonder who’s gonna tell them they can’t do their beloved surgeries. all hate about this deserves to lie straight at the governments feet because this is who will be responsible for this mess. LPNs aren’t just walking out they are legally striking because they have a legal right to strike. we are being backed into a corner and pushed to strike just because the govt doesn’t appreciate us enough to pay us a FAIR wage. FYI Aritzia and Costco employees get paid more than LPNs keeping human beings alive with their own two hands the union said of AHS doesn’t make a good offer this weekend they intend to serve strike notice on the Nov 17 with the strike starting on Nov 20 solidarity everyone and see ya out there ✊🏼

Today a notice of motion was introduced to repeal blanket rezoning. It'll be debated at the #yyccc meeting on December 15th, 2025. The motion will restore zoning rules to what they were before the change to blanket rezoning in 2024.
