- Jordan hasn't received Syrian politicians from the al-Assad regime

Borrell's last trip to the MidEast as the EU's top diplomat also comes amid doubts that his successor, Estonia's Kaja Kallas will take such strong positions and interest in the region, focusing instead on Russia, China and migration amid a right-wing surge in Europe.

On the new ICC arrest warrants for Israel's PM Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant:

Still, the Spanish politician did not shy away from condemning an "apocalyptic" situation in Gaza which he described as a "war against children" in last two days in Amman.

"In the name of humanity... this massacre has to stop," he said.
