The board of Kerry Airport is to be asked to rename the county’s gateway as the "Daniel O’Connell Airport” to mark the 250th anniversary of his birth.
If they do rename it, might they consider calling it the O'Connell Airport so that there is room to honour Daniel's criminally neglected wife too?

Thrilled to see Dr Caroline West's new book, Wrong Women, launch into the world last night. She excavates the lost voices of Monto, once the biggest red-light district in Europe, and brings these wrong(ed) women back into the light, with dignity.

A hymn to aunts - an unheralded superpower.

It is hard to quantify all that my six aunts left behind, but they are still providing metaphorical handrails on this choppy journey we call life.

When Irish missionary Olive Archer finally arrived at her destination after a four-week canoe journey down the River Luapula in central Africa, her fiancé jumped from his bed and ran to meet her in his pyjamas.

There are as many men called James as there are senior women in the New Cabinet, Labour leader
Ivana Bacik said yesterday.
At least in the States, Trump is upfront about dismantling equality and inclusion policies.

The 100th anniversary of Maureen Potter’s birthday on January 3, 1925, passed without much fanfare, but we can still kickstart a centenary celebration to honour this exceptional woman, a comic genius who graced stage and screen for decades.

Seeking Miss Rosita McCormack.
Trawling through newspaper archives, I often come across tantalising snippets such as this one from the Irish Press in 1958.
'Miss Rosita McCormack of Cobh, Co Cork, has a most unusual profession. She is a stocking fashion consultant to a hosiery firm.

A massive thank you to the families who told us their stories, the archivists who gave us access to documents, @gillbooks who turned our work into a book, the reviewers who were so kind, but most of all, to every single one of you who bought The Irish in the Resistance.🙏

This winter solstice, spare a thought for Anne Hickey, the woman who looked after Newgrange passage tomb in Co Meath for decades.

As caretaker for 60 years, she kept the vandals, graffiti-scrawlers, and miscreants away from the monument from around 1900 to some time after 1962.

Remembering Marie O'Sullivan, one of the first continuity announcers on RTE (with Kathleen Watkins and Nuala Donnelly), who died earlier this month.

Get out and vote today!
Remember all the women who fought so hard to make sure we had a vote. Such as Anna Maria Haslam of Youghal, Co Cork.
When she cast her first vote in 1918, at 90, she was paraded to the polling booth by several jubilant members of the suffrage movement.
