Well Manchester residents are fully aware of the Manchester Lib Dems obsession with cutting services. We will not forget the crucial role the Lib Dems played in the coalition government of 2010 which inflicted the deepest and most unfair cuts to our council budget over the last 14 years.

Remember how Rishi Sunak was boasting to Tory members in Kent that he was the one who had started to undo the work that ‘shoved all the funding in to deprived urban areas’?
This is @uklabour.bsky.social righting a wrong that has affected millions of people and especially those most in need.

Overall, the provisional Settlement will ensure that funding goes to the places that need it most & local government will receive a real-terms increase in Core Spending Power of around 3.2%. After 14 years, a government that respects & values the work of local government 👏🏽

Children’s social care is in urgent need of reform, eye watering private provider costs, often with worst outcomes for young people, while councils are pushed over the financial cliff edge.

In-year pressures in the most demand-led people services are as a result of damage caused by 14 years of Tory austerity and will take time to repair. We are confident that we will deliver a balanced budget for 2025/26 whilst continuing to deliver the city’s priorities.
