Good to chat with @tomstannard.bsky.social
about the opportunities and challenges facing the city over the next few years and how we will ensure that Manchester residents are at the heart of our continuing journey to be a world class city which is great to live in, study in, work in and to visit.
Catching up with @cllr-akbar.bsky.social earlier today on all things #Manchester and our budget, ahead of Scrutiny and Council later this month. Good to see you today #localgov

Great to see Secretary of State @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social
announce the rebuild of North Manchester General Hospital in the most urgent phase.

North Manchester desperately needs investment and our residents deserve the best the NHS has to offer, it will also spearhead ambitious regeneration 👇🏼

Well Manchester residents are fully aware of the Manchester Lib Dems obsession with cutting services. We will not forget the crucial role the Lib Dems played in the coalition government of 2010 which inflicted the deepest and most unfair cuts to our council budget over the last 14 years.

@jimmcmahon.co.uk believes in the power of local gov. & the difference it makes. Will reset the relationship between local & central gov. We have a broken funding system which can’t be fixed overnight but @labouruk.bsky.social
committed to working hand-in-hand to get the sector back on its feet

Looking forward to the #LGAFinance conference which will offer perspectives on the 2025/26 provisional local government finance settlement and what it means for local authorities, as well as looking to the longer-term outlook for local government.

Attended all scrutiny committees this week to provide an update on the 25/26 Budget
The @labouruk.bsky.social gov’s Autumn Statement has improved the Council’s position for 25/26 but we’re still dealing with the problems created over 14 yrs

As we move into December & the temperatures start to drop, we don’t want any older resident to suffer hardship through the winter months.

If you haven't received a payment, you can still apply for the winter fuel hardship fund 👇🏽

Remember how Rishi Sunak was boasting to Tory members in Kent that he was the one who had started to undo the work that ‘shoved all the funding in to deprived urban areas’?
This is @uklabour.bsky.social righting a wrong that has affected millions of people and especially those most in need.

Overall, the provisional Settlement will ensure that funding goes to the places that need it most & local government will receive a real-terms increase in Core Spending Power of around 3.2%. After 14 years, a government that respects & values the work of local government 👏🏽
@uklabour.bsky.social
Today, the government has published details on the Local Government Finance Settlement for the next year for councils across England, and our wider ambitions for the sector over the course of this Parliament.

After 14 years of cuts and underinvestment, the road to recovery is long.

Good to see investment in our roads, buses, police, children and young people and so much more.

Locally we will always stand up for what Manchester needs.

In-year pressures in the most demand-led people services are as a result of damage caused by 14 years of Tory austerity and will take time to repair. We are confident that we will deliver a balanced budget for 2025/26 whilst continuing to deliver the city’s priorities.
