AI, along with damn near everything else, could be run on solar, wind, wave/tidal, hydro, or geothermal with battery backups. We could fundamentally change our carbon footprint right now if greedy billionaires (and their bought politicians) didn't keep us going on a dead end path. Literally.
August 13, 2025 at 3:29 AM
Here’s my ridiculous idea: people and countries can only use #ArtificialIntelligence that is net neutral on climate. If we had any brains at all, there would be a global agreement on this. (But alas, the billionaires won’t like this idea at all.)
August 13, 2025 at 3:29 AM
The big question: will the massive use of AI, much powered by fossil fuels, accelerate #climatechange even more? Which could literally put us on a path of economic collapse if not extinction. It is wild these two things are happening simultaneously.

The countries that invest the most in #climate mitigation and green solutions and #sustainability will have the most egalitarian outcomes (and a chance to survive).

"Hoping" for months of high wind shear doesn't seem like the best strategy.

FAFO. SMDH.

LIDAR and radar should be standard. Camera only should only be allowed with active human supervision (meaning, a human driver.) And that kills the economics of what he's been selling. (Plus, he has to know the real data from internal testing, and the number of issues with a camera-only system.)
August 6, 2025 at 12:33 AM
IMHO, the camera-only system simply cannot work in all expected driving conditions and situations. I don't know how you can write code that can fix "system cannot see -- heavy rain (or fog, or snow, or direct sunlight, or glare)".

And the #climate impact should not be understated: huge energy and fresh water needs. Also needs to be managed/controlled. We don't have time to let this run wild for 20 years. We don't have 5 years to let it run wild.

Current shareholders should be truly pissed. That is a huge dilution of share value. But of course, you must keep "the Technoking" happy. SMDH The Tesla board has the "independence" of a sea lamprey.

Especially when more and more of these will be hitting Tesla in coming years, mostly due to what appear to be highly exaggerated promises and capabilities by none other than the man above: www.cnbc.com/2025/08/01/t...
Tesla must pay portion of $329 million in damages after fatal Autopilot crash, jury says
A jury in Florida determined that Tesla should be held partly liable for a fatal 2019 crash involving its Autopilot technology.

The muskrat's insistence on using a camera-only system has given away the market to competitors like #Waymo, #Lucid, and #VW. I think ultimately LIDAR and radar will be required. www.tipranks.com/news/lucid-s...

I'm not "anti-AI' by default (I am definitely a bit concerned!), but I'm very much anything anti- #climate remediation. But #AI is going to need so much power generation and right now, it seems like many of the players are defaulting to fossil fuel options instead of clean energy ones.

It should be renamed the "Let them eat cake" bill.
July 1, 2025 at 8:09 PM
Hard not to see the bill getting passed at this point. No one has shown courage in the GOP. Will be devastating to lower income Americans, to the U.S. government's financial standing, and to the climate in the long run. FAFO. But megawealthy will be able to buy bigger yachts.

The CEO is a bit of an ass too.
