Psych school is mostly people being REALLY excited to look at a problem. At least that’s been my experience.

From the VtM predator types: a consensualist could be calling blood draws a kind of treatment. A sandman could use a variation on hypnotherapy. Certainly nothing about it would be *ethical* 😅 but you could maybe adjust your informed consent paperwork.

I don’t think that quite holds true to like, throwing out encumbrance rules in dnd or gaining xp in V5. I don’t think those infringe on the nature of the storytelling so much are things people have just decided to stop honoring RAW.

Theoretically the game rules are there to *create* the intended experience of the game. If you don’t align with them perhaps maybe it’s not the game with the experience you’re seeking?

I certainly agree with the basic idea here: unless the writer of the ruleset is over your shoulder, then every table is playing their reflection of the rules to the best of their ability.

So then, do you think game rules benefit by being more framework than granular?
