Myth: Cold weather makes you sick
Reality: Shared indoor air does
❄️ Cold ≠ illness
🦠 Viruses spread fastest in indoor, poorly ventilated spaces
🌬️ Outside is one of the safest places to be
• Wrap up warm
• Don’t fear the cold
• Prioritise ventilation + filtration
Clean air prevents illness -not coats

Due to fireworks and local wood burning, the PM2.5 levels have been around 20 µg/m3 all week

The WHO guidelines state that annual average concentrations of PM2.5 should not exceed 5 µg/m3, while 24-hour average exposures should not exceed 15 µg/m3 more than 3 - 4 days per year🧵

As well as measuring the room, think about the number of occupants and decide how much noise you’re willing to accept. Noisy air filters often get turned off. Models with extras such as ionisers are not recommended as they can release toxic chemicals into the air.

At work or school consider getting a CO2 monitor. If a room has high CO2 levels it’s a clear indication of poor ventilation and action is required - usually opening the windows. Place your monitor away from people, doors and windows for accurate reading.

Did you know bonfire night and Diwali are some of the most polluted nights of the year? Fireworks create fine particles which can take a few days to clear, and aggravate symptoms of those with lung conditions #RememberRemember #WorldVentil8Day #BreatheBetterLiveBetter #Fireworks

Sick building syndrome (SBS) is a condition in which people develop symptoms of illness or become infected with chronic disease from the building in which they work or reside. Improving ventilation can reduce or resolve symptoms of SBS.

At home if someone in your household is unwell, the same logic applies, open the windows and turn on air purifiers if you have them. #Ventilate #Ventil8 #WorldVentilateDay #Absence #DontBreatheItIn #Airborne #BlowAwayTheGerms #SickOfBeingSick #MaskUp

A lot of winter bugs spread through airborne transmission. If you open the windows virus particles are diluted or removed (depending on air flow on the day). Ventilate and filtrate by installing air purifiers - giving a more efficient clean of your inside air. @brosseau_lisa
