me too. i had a (very sweet!) student ask why i made theatre instead of movies, where the money and audiences are, and they were genuinely confused by my saying “because i love theatre.” they see me crocheting and ask if i sell my work, and don’t understand my “no.” its BLEAK out here

none. and musicals shouldn’t be fixed imo!! play around, change, experiment, idrc, but don’t act like the original is flawed and needs healing and oh boy, now YOUR rewrite is the only licensable version!

in the annotated libretto, lin manuel miranda points this out—iirc he ranks nyc behind boston at the time too, but its been since i wrote my ma thesis in 2018 so i cant confirm
