Democracies must stand up now for the complete restoration of Ukraine's territorial sovereignty. If we don't stand together against lawless, authoritarian states now, it won't be long until they come after our sovereignty next.

The only thing Elizabeth May should insist on in exchange for supporting the budget is the implementation of proportional representation for the next election. Forget everything else, insist on this one thing or vote no.

How undemocratic of the new Yukon Premier to think that he can ignore the results of the electoral reform referendum. More people voted yes for a new electoral system than voted for your party. You have no legitimacy to ignore the will of the people. Implement the ranked ballot that people voted for

That wasn't the result we wanted, but what a ball game.

Any podcast recommendations for analysis of decisions of the Supreme Court of Canada? There are so many great US Supreme Court podcasts, but I can't find anything similar for Canada.

Contrary to how the Alberta government spins it using the notwithstanding clause shows their willingness to deprive Albertans of their constitutional rights under the Charter when they don't think there will be any political consequences to their actions. Probably won't be the last time they use it.

Canadians must pay attention and learn from how quickly America became a lawless authoritarian state. Allowing hyper partisanship to take control their election administration and justice system has destroyed democracy in America. We must strengthen our democracy before authoritarianism gains power.

The Conservatives, especially Poilievre, look and sound more and more like the Republican Party. If we don't change our electoral system, we are going to end up with a majority Conservative government sooner or later, and given that power they will do to Canada what Trump has done to America.

What has changed to justify the reinstatement by the IPC of Russia and Belarus? Their war of aggression on the Ukraine continues and is getting worse. What is the policy here, if a state just continues to wage aggresive war on another state, we welcome them back if they keep waging war long enough?

Given how little interest our ruling parties have shown in electoral reform, and how difficult it is to remove them, the courts may be the best hope to have meaningful elections for mayor and council. Kamloops' last mayoral election shows how broken the system is. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Our governments shouldn't be running these massive deficits. Nor should we cut that government spending which has demonstrated value to taxpayers. The primary burden of belt-tightening must fall on the wealthy, who should be paying more taxes to reduce the deficit without cutting public services.

Two or more things can be true at the same time, and there is always more than two perspectives on every issue. Gather information and gain understanding before acting.

A political tradition we should do away with is the Official Opposition opposing everything just because they are the opposition. This outdated custom fosters division and cynicism. Instead, elected officials should act in accordance with their own values and approach each issue with an open mind.

If Canada harmonized our provincial/territorial legislation, we could have increased labour mobility for lawyers as well. I think P/T politicians are the only ones who want to make up their own regional laws, where most Canadians want/expect to have the same laws across the country.

Impunity breeds contempt for the law, by both those who are regulated by it, and by those who expect it to be followed by those who are regulated. At a minimum the fines should cover the cost of the investigation. Otherwise, why spend the taxpayer dollars on it? www.cbc.ca/news/busines...

Credibility should be a more important value in democracies. If public officials lie, or have outlandish opinions with no reasonable basis in fact, they should be removed from public office for cause or by recall. Authoritarianism is on the march, feels like democracies aren't defending themselves.
