Being forced to fight in the legal weeds allows hate groups to avoid saying out loud that they're trying to erase a protected group.

Each one of these cases leaves me terrified and exhausted.

And I say that in a sense of disappointment and despair - we need institutions that provide insight and balance, and however flawed it may be, the BBC has been one of those institutions.

I can't decide if the BBC is just intolerant in the way only an old-school establishment can be, or it thought that it was balancing more liberal voices in light entertainment with a bunch of bigots in other departments.

Whichever, it seems to have brought this on itself.

I suspect it would be a bloodbath!... but a fun bloodbath.

I put my face and my identity openly on the web over twenty five years ago, and since then I've grown and evolved and have wonderful friends and family to support me and who I love.

There are some differences - many who argue against trans rights simply don't believe that anyone can experience a different identity to their birth sex, whereas the argument against gay rights absolutely accepts that different sexualities exist, but believes they are a threat.

The key thing for me is realising that most of the law in this area is actually decided (and bought) by a very small part of the population, who have undemocratic levels of influence over the state and media.

As a child I genuinely believed that if you used the shampoo with the picture of the woman with long hair, your hair would grow that long.

Years of bitter disappointment followed.
