Professionally restoring & remodeling historic residential & small commercial buildings since 1998. Creating homes people love to be in, out of the houses they merely lived in, is a rewarding journey.
Throwback to the first kitchen I built about 30years ago. I’ve learned a lot since then. I could construct it better & faster now but the design ideas of my talented MIL are still hard to beat. 😁 #kitchendesign #kitchen #cabinetry #customcabinetry #finishcarpentry #carpentry

This front was satisfying but also a bit dangerous. I sourced old warehouse beams to build out of but neglected to take appropriate precautions when milling. The resulting dust caused me some trouble. Nothing serious, but enough to take notice & be mindful in the future when reclaiming lumber. 😅

This house had been in the client’s family for most of its life. A little spit & polish and now it’s ready to take on its next 100yrs. 😁 #historicrenovation #restoration #remodel #renovation #victorian

According to Main Street America, for every $1 invested in revitalizing city’s Main Streets $18.03 was returned in ‘23. I’ve been involved in Main St restoration projects for over 15yrs in my community & have witnessed the impact first hand. I highly recommend. 😊 #restoration #mainstreet #renovation

Few things are more professionally satisfying than taking a building that almost no one would have felt comfortable stepping foot into & creating a welcoming & inviting space. ☺️ #restoration #renovation #commercialrestoration #carpentry #finishcarpentry #retail

Too often these days it seems like we have less & less appreciation of the beauty of what is. “It’s old, tear it out, throw it in the dumpster!” This floor is a testament to “new isn’t always better.” 😉 #carpentry #finishcarpentry #woodfloor #reclaimedlumber #remodel #restoration #kitchenrenovation

Here’s an interior view of our fire damaged buildings. I think it came out rather well considering. 😊 #restoration #remodel #firerestoration #carpentry #finishcarpentry #commercialrestoration #renovation #retail

My favorite version of an update is a return to what might’ve been. Some architectural elements simply stand the test of time. Especially those humans have appreciated for centuries. #carpentry #restoration #remodel #commercialrestoration #architecture #stampedmetal #decorative #mainstreet

What a difference a little spit and polish (and apparent arson) can make. 😂 Never found who did it but the timing was highly suspect. #commercialbuilding #restoration #remodel #carpentry #firedamage #mainstreet

I bought these building on a Thursday evening & arrived Friday morning to see they were on fire. There wasn’t even time to get them insured. Thankfully enough of the structure was still intact to make the best of a bad situation. #carpentry #restoration #commercialbuilding #remodel #historic

Often times a “freshening up” can breathe new life into an existing space. This sun room had become cold, cluttered & uninviting. Upgraded weathertight windows, improved energy efficiency & flooring made this space a primary living space instead of a rarely used room. #remodel #carpentry #sunroom

30yrs of restoring old houses has taught me to see beyond appearances to what can be. It’s rewarding work making ideas become reality. 😊 #historic #restoration #renovation #carpentry #architecture #vision #remodel #farmhouse #homestead #foursquare

Restoring an existing home or structure is one of the most sustainable & beneficial actions you can take. Inherent energy is not lost, efficiency upgrades provide benefits for decades & restored beauty will be appreciated for generations. #restoration #remodel #queenanne #carpentry #sustainability

What a difference a remodel can make. As houses change owners, what worked for one person doesn’t always work for an other. Sometimes what worked fine no longer serves us and it’s time for change. That’s when I usually get a call. 😉 #remodel #carpentry #renovation #cedar #porch #homeupdate

It’s hard to believe this was 5years ago. My stalwart corgi friend has brought a smile to my face every day since. 😁 #carpentry #corgi #corgipuppy #workbuddy #bluemerle

Who likes a good piece of landscape architecture? Useful for roses to climb on, blocking unsightly views, putting lights on & perhaps a bit of shade. 😊 #carpentry #landscape #reclaimedlumber #woodworking #architecture #garden #roses

The crown in the previous post led to these passageways. Many many layers of 1/8” laminated maple. The original openings were once french door sets someone got rid of years ago. These opened the space without major construction. #carpentry #remodel #renovation #historic #finishcarpentry #archway

This test run on a heavy arched molding led to a larger version I used for some passage archways. It was a lot of glue up & careful work but I was quite happy with the result. #carpentry #finishcarpentry #curvedarchitecture #woodworking #customcabinetry #cabinetry #kitchen #maple

Sometimes in life the most vital skill can be the ability to “make it happen”. Many years ago, when I didn’t have a trailer or time to rent one, I picked up some greenhouse panels a couple hours away. Made it back in one piece. 😂 #carpentry #getitdone #greenhouse #ford #f250 #creativity

These days wood windows don’t often get the love they deserve. With proper care they last centuries. I’ve removed aluminum windows that failed within a couple decades. I can only imagine what Vinyl will be like in another 20yrs. lol #woodwindows #carpentry #dormer #restoration #renovation #remodel

For a time my wife was really into embroidery. So what do we woodworkers do for Christmas, birthdays & anniversaries? Look as what our loved ones enjoy & build them something! 😂 #embroidery #woodworking #box #carpentry #woodenbox #marquetry

Molding is important. Corporate buyouts are causing local lumber companies to drop lesser selling items from inventory. Found out this week several regularly stocked items have become unavailable or only special order. Thankfully I can make my own but it’s a sad state of affairs.🤦‍♂️ #finishcarpentry

My first try at building a desk many years ago. Took me exactly 100hrs. Cherry with ribboned Maple. Sliding dovetails & 4 screws are all that attached the top. M & T frame assembly. #Blum soft close drawer hardware. I thought it turned out pretty decent. 😊 #desk #carpentry #furniture #woodworking
