There aren't a lot of resources for what people can do to prevent the destruction of NCAR, so I made this:

playing a swallowtail in a game of #LancerRPG is an Experience because I have actually had to make a color-coded spreadsheet to keep track of all the things my pilot knows (and I am having a great time about it)

This is absolutely insane and so incredibly shortsighted. NCAR is a global pillar for all atmospheric science and holds the highest of standards for research excellence. We collaborate with NCAR; source data from them; they pioneer scientific breakthroughs.

This must not go quietly.

wild that I, a legally blind person, won at poker night, the game where reading people's expressions is kind of a giant part of the gimmick

The annoying thing about DMing a game and also drawing a lot is I really want to show my friends the cool art I made, but it'll be a while before it won't be a massive spoiler for them :(

I just wanted to plot a single decision tree from my random forest regression model but I got what appears to be an eldritch horror instead

There are lots of things that are deeply wrong with standardized testing, but taking the GREs remotely and being told I wasn't allowed to have a water bottle (not even a label on the thing, literally just a HydroFlask) to drink from really takes the cake. :/

well it's officially the time of year when the weather is just plain evil

Things that have been incredible about today:
- I got to spend it with my best friend
- I got to spend it getting married to my best friend
- I got to spend it getting married to my best friend at the Boston Public Library, a special place for both of us
- Celebratory hot pot after :)

Nothing like the recurring hell of getting stuck on a math or code problem and my brain deciding the fix is to chuck me in a deeply surreal dream about it overnight - truly a 0/10 experience, would not recommend.

The worst part is, it works.

Patched up my shoes with purple duct tape, which my friends have collectively declared the sort of design choice that someone would make for an original character - so of course I've leaned into it and been doing a whole bit about how I even have unusual eyes, the real quintessential OC trait 🤣

I've just discovered HyRiver, and oh my god this is amazing, thank you hydrology nerds who came before me for getting so fed up with the same problems that you made a whole entire suite of python packages about it, this project would have been a nightmare otherwise

It's November, which means it's getting dark early enough now to initiate the daily ritual of 4 PM coffee and a pastry to remind myself it's not even that late yet, and I'm always a little surprised at how well it actually works

Fascinating to learn that I'm apparently"dad-coded" - I have no idea what to do with this information, but I sure do have it now I guess?

One productive afternoon later, I've learned how to make cipher-cracking scripts in python all because I overdid wanting to solve one silly coded message, and honestly the fact that I now know how to wield the power of stats for a bunch of common cipher types is something I'm pretty stoked about

This is How You Lose the Time War has been an absolutely surreal read - definitely one of those books that's made me realize I need to go wander around outside for a couple hours and let the prose sink into into my synapses

Unexpected team building exercises for the friend group today at the apple orchard, where we decided if none of us could reach the apples we wanted, we were just going to have to take turns boosting each other up instead.

We've now mastered this art, and have so many apples from
it to boot.

spent a chunk of my afternoon helping someone with data retrieval, and I'm so very salty that the education system can't be bothered to teach their STEM majors basic tools like wget commands - these shouldn't be things you have to stumble into learning from your weird interdisciplinary buddy

I think my feelings about the Knights of Guinevere pilot can best be summed up by the fact that after seeing it I spent ten minutes trying and failing to form cohesive sentences while also bouncing around excitedly
