I think they're coming from the same places sonically and what has influenced them. The thing that amazes me is that for even being so young and full of energy and ideas, is how Kai with both Sharp Pins and Lifeguard going on has written so many good songs in a short period of time.

I liked their songs a lot but seeing them live made me realize how much of an incredible band they are.

I've long wanted a tee shirt with "I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT STEELY DAN" on it.

Most of the new article written about old records usually give me the impression the writer has READ a lot about the record they're revisiting rather than actually listening to it. Just rehashing what has already be written. Very rarely is there any new insight or opinion of it.

I HAVE long thought about writing a thinkpiece called "I bought the Replacements 'Tim' the day it was originally released. It was a huge letdown following the two before it."
November 22, 2025 at 1:45 AM
I mean, the world needs more thinkpieces on the Replacements Tim album and Steely Dan records, right?

I ‘spose I'd get more traction with these if I wrote more about old records people have written about a thousand times before but, then again, I'm not one of those Gen X'rs that never really seeks out anything new and then bitches there's “no good music being made these days.”

A place Thomas Edison cultists make a pilgrimage to.

Agreed. It's the biggest phoned in track on it. Reggae Mick always falls flat for me.

Rumours is not a fun album. It's paranoia and bitterness. The Stones are just the decadent Stones doing shit they did in the 70s.

Hot Stuff was a total dance floor banger in Michigan. Rooms shaking from Port Sanilac to Torch Lake.

I like those 70s Stones albums a lot. They were plentiful and cheap in the late 80s/early 90s.

Then again, Landslide is now a Hallmark Christmas standard to sell people a Lexus. After all, it's about snow.

Yes, Black and Blue is a big decadent coked out mess. There are bigger decadent coked out messes that people revere much higher than it. Thing is Black and Blue is a fun decadent cocaine mess. And I'd rather hear Memory Motel anytime over something like fucking Landslide.

Not that either of us are gonna drop coin on whatever the overpriced bullshit deluxe anniversary edition costs (because I only spend my music money on newer/truly independent bands...the Stones don't need my money) but, yeah, we will set away some time to stream it in its entirety eventually.
