I had lots of fun at #rEDCam25 on Saturday. What was super lovely (and unexpected!) was some delegates tell me how much they like my writing because I tackle thorny edu issues very respectfully, and support teacher voices. It meant a lot. Thank you 🙏

New S*bstack, which isn’t really new: it’s a repost from way back in 2018 when I hadn’t been blogging for long. It’s about growing up in poverty, my amazing parents, and the great school I went to. Link below ⬇️

Hello Bluesky!
Another post from me :)

Is leading behaviour in schools an intellectual challenge?
(Spoiler alert: of course it is)

It’s been a while since I medieval spammed you lot. Was at Peterborough Cathedral today. Could only access the nave because they were preparing for an event but PHWOARRRRRR

Sure. But the example of awkward tension I give is specifically in relation to someone showing sympathy. As someone who doesn’t have children and *has* had someone respond with “Ok, cool”, I can categorically tell you there was no tumbleweed and the conversation carried on.

Where have I been today, castle fans?

Haven’t spent much time over here recently. Is it better than the other place? I feel like I’m being perpetually sold to over there. I don’t even mean just the ads. There’s so much unchecked cruel optimism in education.

FINALLY
April 11, 2025 at 7:57 PM
As I limp towards the end of term (one more week 😩) help me decide where to go for a few days over Easter as I’ve organised nothing yet. Usual stuff:
- Beautiful buildings
- Ancient cathedrals/churches
- Castles
- Art galleries & museums
- Books
- Cake
Ideally no more than 3 hours from Brum
Thanks!

I feel like this is the social media platform that will really appreciate my belated Christmas present: origami cats 😻

Wrens! But I also love owls (we have a resident tawny owl at the bottom of our garden), and treecreepers spiralling up the trunks of trees are also a fave.

Was sad no one recognised my niche Christmas jumper until a year 9 boy spotted me in the corridor and yelled “WICKED, WICKED!!” Thrilled the absolute ledge General Levy is still being appreciated by the (much) younger generation 😂 #Incredible

Just got home from the Christmas concert and my heart is full of joy. Extraordinary performances on the drums, trombone, steel pans, piano, guitar, dhol drum, violin, clarinet, and voice. What talent in our school. A school without music is a school without soul ❤️🎶

Latest visit to the vet today for a check up and apparently Missy’s a “dream patient” 😻 Very relieved that she’s fully recovered and there’s no more cause for concern. Hurrah!

Right Bluesky, time for your help. I think these are likely to be my top three reads of 2024. I loved them all. What next? RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE
