What short stories, books, TV shows, comics, films would you recommend college students think about for a project like this?

I’m giving them an initial list of stories they can check out—things I know were either created with certain research, experience, or histories in mind, or ones that could speak to what we’re living through. The question I’m putting out into the ether:

Practicing research, organizing it, synthesizing, analyzing—it’s all part of the project goal. But I also want students to think about why these issues are important to think about, through the lens of fiction. I’m going to let them write about fiction, TV, film, comics, etc.

For their final project of the quarter, students will get to pick a speculative story and research ways it was either influenced by real world ideas and events in its creation or ways in which the story speaks to something happening/being discussed in our world now.
