He is a brilliant little cheer-monger. His brother Weatherwax also brings all the floof you could possibly ask for.

Some eighteenth century graffiti with tea and cake yesterday.

Images are of a sun-striped wooden café table in front of stone mullioned windows with greenery outside. A slice of cake and a pot of tea is on the table.

The stone mullions have deeply scratched initials I . S and the date...

Feels like autumn already although the trees still hold their green. Good to be starting the new academic year in the library working on a new book proposal 🤞🏻

Writing about Roman slavery today. So #RomanFortThursday are the remains of cavalry barracks at Housesteads on Hadrian's Wall. Enslaved grooms - calones - cared for horses and their kit in the Roman army.

Research visit to #Vindolanda today. This is a multi-use commercial/accommodation building in the settlement outside the fort-wfh was a Roman thing.

Inside was a counter with drains for sluicing it clean, meat-hooks, knives and animal bone. Most likely this was a butchers shop.

Trying to think of delay repay and not grind my teeth into nubs at yet again cancelled train.

Least I have excellent reading material and vat of (bad, expensive) coffee before I'm no doubt standing all the way to London. Again.

I have both a perfect score and a semi-colon addiction. Fact.

(Other writers seek out and destroy adjectives in their drafts; I hunt down semi-colons with ctrl+f.)
