I don't share much work because 99% of it is children I won't/can't share online.

I get the intent, and it's bad, but the real failure is the photographer choosing style over basic knowledge of the craft. Proof - J.D. Vance's picture. Never put a side light on a round head, it makes it more round, and that guy does NOT need a fatter head!

It's a lack of knowledge in regards to lighting and art history. It's glamour lighting to look trendy and strong, but it has too much light from underneath - you can see the long light in the bottom of his eyes. This creates what's called "monster" or "frankenstein" light. History won't be kind.

You don't want to put skim lighting on a round head. It makes it look even more round and fat.
I can't believe this isn't done to mock him. It's not. Just bad lighting knowledge, done because it's "cool and stylish."
