Went to Waiheke this week. The ferries & buses were full but the island wasn't nearly as busy as expected, in fact it was quite pleasant. Talked to a business owner who said it peaked and started dipping pre-Xmas & hasn't been that busy so it wasn't just me thinking it was quieter. I wonder why?

Wayne Brown has a lucid moment realising increased density is good for Auckland.

"...the more people you get in a place ... the better behaviour is the more people you get there, the more shops that are open the more people you get in a place and the more people on the street things get better,”

Just a quick bike ride to the beach. Auckland is looking good today. More please.

Even if the climate goals are met a number of climate scientists are now projecting a 20m sea level rise. Welcome to the new North Island and the Centre Island. Interesting times ahead for Auckland.

I see DM's are coming to Bluesky but not until after Federation happens so I guess sometime later next year.

Interesting. It seems that the Kikorangi feed doesn't pick up all posts with mentions of NZ in them.

Governments in Australia are considerings bans on engineered stone but Bunnings and IKEA in Australia are already stopping the sale of their engineered stone benchtops due to the related health issues to those working with this material. Will NZ follow suit?

I've tweaked the Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland feed a little more. Seems to be a little better at picking up more relevant posts and less unreleated posts.

Typical...and frustrating that this story occurs time and time again. Businesses often think they know best when it comes to the streets around them until they get shown once again they were wrong. Business is about people first, not cars.
This is amazing, and frustrating. The City of Barcelona traded 3 lanes of vehicle traffic for a 4.7km green pedestrian corridor in the heart of the Eixample grid. Businesses sued, and eventually won in court. Then they admitted that they like the change.

Streets for people are good for business.

Surface light rail was always the right choice for Auckland. Let's still try and make it happen. Sign the petition.

I did a little more finetuning of the Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland feed I created last night. There are limitations to it but it's getting better.

I've been playing around and have created a basic feed for Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland if anyone is interested. It needs some refinement but it's a start. Any of these hashtags should see your posts in it. #akl #auckland #jafa

New member, Tejo, was cycling past ALoT when he saw our brand new electric wood chipper arriving at the library. He became a member, then went to get his cargo bike. After loading the chipper onto his bike, he decided he also needed the long pole pruner, and happily loaded that on his bike too! 🚲🇳🇿

This is something Auckland Transport could fit to the buses. It would be particularly useful for ticketing all those drivers that keep parking in the bike lanes. It would generate a pretty revenue stream in Auckland at the moment.

I'd visit lots of places in New Zealand if there were trains to them. Especially if I could take my ebike. It would be a regular thing.
Like I would actually visit Dunedin voluntarily if there was a train from Christchurch.
I don't understand that either. I'd love to take the train from Chch to Dunedin.

Making vehicles safer should be about those outside of the vehicle too and the choice of vehicle has a real-world impact with SUV's causing more death.
"...passenger cars were the striking vehicle in 62% of accidents involving pedestrian or cyclist children but resulted in only 19% of fatalities. In comparison, SUVs were the striking vehicle in only 16.9% of crashes involving children but were responsible for 40% of fatalities."

When it's time to go, why not go by bike? This cargo bike hearse with a bike procession following behind in Paris seems like a good option.
