Dr. Lisamarie Windham-Myers - Dr. Cloern was genuinely fascinated by our evolving estuary, dedicating more than 4 decades to meticulous observations that continue to expose its ecosystem interconnectedness. Today's Delta science community is more welcoming & world-recognized because of his light.

Prior to his membership on the DISB, he spent 4 decades pursuing research in the Bay-Delta at USGS on topics ranging from primary production to disturbance by introduced species.

His legacy extends far beyond the Delta ISB & he was awarded the Brown-Nichols Science Award in 2012 for his outstanding contributions to science in the San Francisco Estuary and watershed.

(text below taken from the Delta ISB announcement) Dr. Cloern served on the Delta ISB from 2020 to 2021. He played an important role in the 2021 non-native species review & organized a DISB panel discussion on food webs that resulted in a completed review of the topic in 2024.

I wonder what impact microplastics in the gut biome is having on the overall health of all the living creatures in our environment.
October 7, 2025 at 6:38 PM
Microplastics are here to stay but that there are measures that people can take into their daily lives to reduce overall exposure: use wooden cutting boards, drink from glass bottles, switch to plastic-free dental care products and buy unpackaged stuff at the farmer's market.
