You know, maybe the DfE needs to ask itself the question about why, if the current extremely heavy emphasis on phonics is 'working', they still need to test reading in year 8? 🤷‍♀️

One approach is to teach about the ‘values’ as concepts to be applied to encourage critical and evaluative thinking about contemporary issues. Otherwise I think the idea of ‘promoting’ democracy or the rule of law as ‘values’ can avoid the political dimension. openjournals.ljmu.ac.uk/prism/articl...
