Too many people are saying they expect civil war. All this does is stoke anxiety, which we have enough of already. Most of this is heightened emotion looking for an outlet. Where's the actual objective, shared by all on each respective side, other than "I want you to hurt as much as I do?"
What has happened to our heart?” he asked. “Today ... I wonder whether we can even recognize our country, because we were founded on these principles and our Lady of Liberty has stood where so many of our immigrants have entered as a sign of hope, as a place of justice.”

At the same time the Dept of Agriculture says it can't spend its $6 billion reserve towards the $8 billion needed for SNAP in November, the administration easily found $20 billion to prop up right-wing Trump ally Javier Milei in Argentina.

What are we doing here?

The onslaught on scientific research in the U.S. (which is quickly driving us, as a nation, into 'second world' status), could be used as an opportunity to push for publicly funded science serving the people, not corporations such as pharma, fossil fuel, etc.

Not many of us know how to fight properly. We fall back on the feces-flinging of our primate ancestors, and escalate to violence for silly reasons.

A wisdom tradition teacher once said that in order to survive, he had to learn how to fight with his wife. It mainly involved figuring out what we are really fighting for, and whether that was really the thing most worth fighting for. In the end, aren't we best off when we're all happy?

“Do not get lost in a sea of despair,” Rep John Lewis tweeted about a year before his death in 2020. “Do not become bitter or hostile. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble. We will find a way to make a way out of no way.”

So it's going to take effort on all of our parts to make America a great place to live again. A good place to start is learning how to get along - make a couple friends, find out how your community is being impacted by cuts. 2/2

It's been generations since people fought for & won the modest safety net (min wage, social sec, 5 day work week, medicaid, etc) that is now being dismantled. It seems to be human nature to want to build & then relax, coast a while. Now, many of us are unaware of how much we have relied on it. 1/2

In response to the tragic losses caused by flash flooding in Kerr County, Texas, with insufficient preparation and warning, local residents are reconsidering the importance of public safety measures, public services and land use guidelines. May we all take note!

Today I had a long discussion with my Mexican roofer. We talked about immigration lawyers in our city, places for sanctuary, and help from churches. He was already aware of some, and is now aware of all. We are a community. We need to protect each other.

Remember that this administration’s first high-profile ICE detentions were not of violent criminals or even people in the country illegally but of activists here on green cards and student visas.

As social media has turned personal identity into performance art, transforming us all into brands, personal integrity has become more elusive. To find solidarity in our shared values, we first need to know where our own hearts are.

🧵Over 6,000 doctors, nurses, researchers, and others released an open letter of warning against the administration’s destruction of public health, research, and Medicaid programs. “We are certain this will cost lives.”

Disagreement, and dissent, is not 'chaos,' and should never be prosecuted as 'obstruction.' The consent of the governed is the essence of government legitimacy. When consensus fails, it can't be forced except by abdicating the claim to legitimacy.
