She is most known for her observation of gravitational waves from a two black hole collision, a phenomena once predicted by Einstein. This helped our understanding of the universe and dark matter. Learn more about Nergis Mavalvala here:

STEM Scientist of the Week: Nergis Mavalvala
Nergis Mavalvala is a queer Pakistani-American astrophysicist, who won the 2014 LGBTQ Scientist of the year. She earned her doctorate in astrophysics at MIT, and later was the first woman to become the Dean of Sciences at MIT in 2020.
