Colorism and racism are still massive issues within Japanese fashion & anime spaces. I feel like a lot of people join these communities expecting to be higher up on the hierarchy because they fit Japanese and/or Western beauty ideals. There’s also a weird hierarchy regarding proximity to Japan.

No fr it’s actually so exhausting having to explain to people that you don’t always need top and bottom lashes with an exaggerated droop just to do gyaru makeup. It’s not practical for everyday wear & even the gals most people praise were t OTT 24/7.
The day the western gyaru comm learns you don't have to wear yamanba makeup with every other substyle is the day I'll finally know peace. Gyaru makeup varies. #gyaru

So let’s talk a bit about some of the recent designs from Japanese fashion brands! I feel like we’re in a weird transitional phase right now between Jirai/Ryousangata and Hime/Himekaji. A lot of recent designs from brands like Ank Rouge fall in a weird grey area imo??
