Random things, usually on film.
That feels perfectly sensible to me 😉

Why should that be a worry at all? 😉

Will the VHS&Laserdisc&DVD&Blu-ray be available again? Thank you

Different films being shown wouldn't be bad, but i suspect they will just find another one to repeat endlessly... (nothing against the film btw, but every week, sometimes more than once, feels excessive.

Some scripts he discusses in the book are also stored there -I just checked the bibliography: Wilder's Heil, Darling; The Coward by Hecht and H Mankiewicz & two by Frances Marion.

Also a few solo Hecht ones at Harry Ransom Centre in Austin and the Warner Bros script collection.

Ah but that's probably coming from his archives.

I have never heard of those, but yes I suspect they might be.

The book the guy wrote was based on postdoc research in the studios archive I think (I have a copy just haven't read it yet). So no reason to believe they don't potentially exist, unless they got junked with the negatives Fox threw out.

Do you know of this? www.sensesofcinema.com/2022/feature...

There's a book by the author on unfilmed scripts by Ben Hecht, Wilder and Frances Marion, but I am not sure it ever got an English translation.

A very good essay btw!

The source is Leisen's interview book with David Chierichetti.

And they did it just before his own film with her! If you (re)watch No Time for Love, you can see Leisen recycling the set from Palm Beach to save money because of the war and because it was already camera ready for Colbert.

I like very much how the ending completely tears the Hays Code apart. But i see your point. It's not as perfect.

I also remember liking Tovarich (which is nearly impossible to find) and Arise, My Love. And yes, Lubitsch and Leisen got the best out of her - although Practically Yours is dreadful.

And it says so much about who she's at that moment. I rewatched the moment the blu-ray arrived.

More and more, I think her best Paramount comedies have become my favourites and endlessly rewatchable: this, The Palm Beach Story, No Time for Love and Bluebeard's 8th Wife.

I absolutely love this one, one of the few films I would pay the silly price Criterion is now asking for UK blu-rays. This is one of my favourite bits.

Thanks

How's The Lady Gambles? It's the one of a couple of her films I own I never managed to get very far.

Although looking forward to new blu-ray of The Mad Miss Manton which I do enjoy a lot.

This is shocking... 4 years?!

I think i liked a bit more than the original

Less and its sequel by Andrew Sean Greer

Carnal Knowledge has also been released in the UK by Indicator.

Also from the recent Criterion releases, (for the next sale...) I recommend the Wilder comedy Midnight. For some reason doesn't usually get mentioned much but it is one of the great screwball comedies. And got released here as well.

Great effort and an extremely disturbing collection of clips.

Depending on the height of the shelves, putting the cases horizontally may allow you to fit a few more.

It's originally a Mae West line: "When I'm good, I'm very good, but when I'm bad, I'm better."
