Some recent acquisitions. I don't know how many of you do physical media, but I imagine I'll always be hooked. These past couple months' random sales, thrift store finds, and eBay, have more than doubled (tripled?) my typically casual spending.

Off to see Rocky's 50th tonight. It'll be fun to watch the new generation see this and hopefully we'll have a local crew step up to initiate the virgins.

I shiver in antici...

Some recent acquisitions via @diabolikdvd.bsky.social 🎬

They are always quick to deliver, seemingly early to ship, and arriving in perfect shape. If you don't use them for your overseas boutique labels already, you need to check them out.

27 new acquisitions & gifts

I watched Courtship of Eddie's Father last night. I grew up on the TV show. I had no idea there was a movie. The lines that they have little Ronny Howard deliver are priceless. A good movie, and far different than the TV series to come 7 or 8 years later #filmsky 📽 [1/?]

What are four Christmas movies to know you by?

I saw Vinegar Syndrome's "Flesh for Frankenstein" free on Kanopy the other night.
I have to admit that after decades of hearing about it, it was a tough one to sit through w/o pausing it or just watching it in pieces.
The sets are great, the '73 X rated aspects are fine, but the acting & props, ugh📽️

Santa came through with an eclectic list of 11 films 📽️ from Kino Lorber for Christmas (And no doubt from their sale at the beginning of the month). 10 Blurays and one 4K.
Now to make the time to watch them.

Japan's 70th anniversary of Godzilla gives us G Minus One 📽️ which has now gone wide in the US.
If you only see one Kaiju movie this year, you should make it this, on the biggest screen in your area.
At 2+hours, the time flies due to solid character development and awesome monster scenes.
See it!

For the physical media 📽️ folks, some recent acquisitions, either through crazy sales or long awaited used sale sites popping up old alerts. More on some in future posts.

I'm late to the 📽️ party but I was glad to see it still in theaters and that my showing was half full this late into the run. I have not seen Branaugh's other Hercule Poirot, but I did like the ghost story, murder mystery presented here. Michelle Yeoh was a nice plus. I'm generous to some with my 4/5

I hadn't watched my 4k of Upgrade 📽️🎬. I saw some praise for it on Reddit, so I popped it in. I can confirm it's a great transfer. It's a fairly obscure movie & I really loved it in a theater in 2018
It's a near future violent sci-fi of a man w/ a computerized neurological implant in a murder mystery

If you collect physical media 📽️, are in the States, and are not familiar with HamiltonBooks . com, they've got some decent deals on many good to great films and documentaries.
This is an example of some current 4K prices.
I find it hard not to drop $100 there every few months.
Check 'em out.

Yay! I've had an alert set for a year to find this 📽️DVD at a decent price. Long out of print w/no bluray, this '95 black Brit comedy is based on a real life poisoner. It follows it's lead from 14-22 years of age w/a first person POV. If you like Clockwork Orange & Man Bites Dog, watch it if you can.

I know I mentioned the Kanopy Streaming Film service that is free to many who have library cards or university logons, but I wanted to bang the drum some more, as I see people complaining about pay services like Netflix, while this has 30K titles for free, and always many Criterions. Check them out📽️

A local theater was showing a revival of the Pakistani movie📽️ Joyland the other night, so I finally got to see it (For $5).
I enjoy seeing LGBTQ+ films from other cultures, and this one is pretty excellent in showing relationships and attitudes from all side. It's a story of a married man who [1/3]

I finally saw Sisu and I can say that it is a fun ride! 📽️
I'd have expected nothing less from the director that brought us Rare Exports, the horror Christmas movie (2nd image).

Kubrick's The Killing (1955), his 1st major film, is a well shot\acted noir\heist movie.
Sterling Hayden's fast talking Johnny is cut from the same cloth to me as the Apartment's Fred MacMurray. Elisha Cook Jr.'s wife, played by Marie Windsor, is the perfect wildcard in the mix. KL's 4K looks great📽️

I don't think you can quote on the website, so a reply it is:
"4 horror films to get to know you. 📽"
There are too many to choose, so I'll settle with 4 of my highest rated ones here.

Because I'm ancient, here's to Supertramp's Breakfast in America. I probably walked 3 or 4 miles through woods and bike trails to get to the shop and back.

Gotta admit, I liked this a good deal. 📽️
Blue Beetle is fun and leans hard into its PG-13 rating at times. Meaning, I'm sure there will be more than a few youngins freaked out a bit by a scene or two. But all in all, it's a solid superhero/comic book movie that people should get out and see. [1/2]

Off to an early morning showing of Blue Beetle.
I was not a fan of the character as I'd known him over the years, but I was happy to see this generation having what seems to be a radically new take on the story. The trailer sold me on checking it out.
Hopefully DC does better with this one. 📽️
