Trying to explain this story as if one is speaking to a small child. Members of congress, whose job it is to set federal spending, now get to call Elon, who is for some reason controlling federal spending, to plead for changes to federal spending????? www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...
Musk promises better communication between Republican lawmakers, DOGE

In new tariff news from this speech, Trump named the EU, China, Brazil, India, Mexico, Canada, and South Korea are the countries for possible April 2nd tariffs—that would cover the vast majority of US trade. He also reiterated he wants tariffs on food to start April 2nd.

This feels like a sort of carnival-week funeral for the US republic. Beneath deep anger at Trump's orgy of vandalism and self-worship, I feel deep sadness. What a train wreck of a superpower.

What he said about Social Security payments has been repeatedly debunked - so the question isn’t whether he’s lying about this, the question is why.

What is this a pretext for? He and the GOP have long shown interest in going after Social Security. What are they going to try?

This whole riff on the ages of people on social security is IDENTICAL to the lies he's told about voter rolls and voting fraud.

Trump now lying about Social Security in his prepared remarks, pretending there's a lot of fraud.

He's talking about a database that includes all the people who've ever received Social Security, but pretending it's the people who actively receive benefits.

None of these federal workforce executive orders are designed to help the American People. They are designed to stoke fear, sow chaos, and get experts who would otherwise push back on harmful policy to quit their jobs or be fired.

Ask me how I know.

Of course ending birthright citizenship is blatantly unconstitutional. So is a third term in office.

But I thought the same thing about presidential criminal immunity and holding office after inciting an insurrection.

The obvious is not so obvious anymore.
