text that reads: i find myself a visitor to holy spaces every so often when they call me there— sometimes to look upon their faces, those whose faith dictates i do not exist in this form, sometimes to take in a hallow breath, taste what i could've had if i gave up on myself before i even started this is bliss, so i get it. if i didn't know my own heart so well, my wandering feet would've found a church years ago. it's a siren song— i am not immune to needing to be loved. on the contrary, i am so desperate to be something to cherish, i sit outside on the steps of the cathedral, one ear in the worship of an unconditionally compassionate god, and i think of putting down the person i carved flesh from to become i think i’d rather be precious than honest, be held than stone, be absolved than guilty of how much of me is grief text that reads (continued): am i so attached to this version of me, the one the world finds so difficult to keep, the one i carry with apology and shame? but it's mine, despite that, undivine and unwanted, but the one i take with me still who else will sit with me on the steps of the cathedral and forgive my tired, aching bones? these are abstract selves: myself, my god in them both i have doubt and faith, in equal measure it would be a lie to say i'm not tempted by the gospel but i was born a sinner— i will continue to disappoint and who else will choose me if i don't choose me?
