One year since I lost this big big little guy. He was only 8 and I miss him a lot. I try to give his brother a lot of love. 💔

Mini Sunday watercolor from the #beampaints affirmation coloring book. Actual (meteorological) rain would be nice.

I finally read @thomasha.bsky.social 's Uncertain Sons and it is too damn good -- and also very now in the best ways. It's hard to do catharsis at a time where we have grief for the present moment and are fighting to act & hope, *and* also maybe just want a fairy tale. This does/is ALL OF those.

Tried a watercolor sketch after a very long time of not messing around with art stuff at all. Dollar store paint is crap, but it was nice to muddle through / re-remember a few things.

This is one of my favorite author self-promotion posts. So cheeky and also immediately clear and a little bit mysterious.

(And also this book by @premeemohamed.com was super good. Sibling bonds and postapocalyptic murderous fae.
Just: 🤩)

For this "describe your take on the current moment" thread: today I pick whatever the last 50 words are from this scene in @maxgladstone.bsky.social 's 'Wicked Problems'

Last night I thought I had a brilliant idea: the old MS-DOS WEP game "Chip's Challenge" as the basis for an oracle deck. The benefit would be the *instant* visceral knowledge players of this game have of each level's (1) challenge, (2) simplistic narrative, and (3) skill/solution.

Weird, yes. I get "super creepy head tilt," though.

That angle just doesn't feel very good. 😬

Solvable problem: "Currently reading" pile out of flippin' control. TBR pile not shown.

OK, CBC, I think it's time to call it a night. You going to get a ride or you need me to call someone for you?

My bookstore did not have Wearing the Lion but Someone You Can Build a Nest In is a delight; I can already tell I'm going to miss it when it's done.

(I also decided I'm allowed to be excited about two books right next to each other. Alison Bechdel was the first item, these are #2 & 3, IT'S FINE. 😅)

NYT don't appear to own a dictionary.

I stopped reading NYT news when it became apparent that "controversial" would be used in place of "illegal," "unconstitutional," & "fascist."

Uninstalling their games now is a petty, small thing. But really. ("Not in dictionary"? What could be more English?) 🙄

Wow, turns out I think I am much smarter, edgier, and motivated to do cool stuff than I am. Was sick for a week, so let's blame that 😂

The Stone Road by @trentonomicon.bsky.social was excellent, I loved every minute. It was creepy and visceral with a complex world that felt full of real people with their own stories. The characters don't always know why they make the decisions they do, and the story was tough & sad & 100% engaging.

NYT spelling bee has a terrible dictionary and also doesn't have my (really not good) French skills. Solution: paper.

"Jazz hands" donut-patterned lobster. Rare to see in the wild in such superb condition
