I finally read @thomasha.bsky.social 's Uncertain Sons and it is too damn good -- and also very now in the best ways. It's hard to do catharsis at a time where we have grief for the present moment and are fighting to act & hope, *and* also maybe just want a fairy tale. This does/is ALL OF those.

Tried a watercolor sketch after a very long time of not messing around with art stuff at all. Dollar store paint is crap, but it was nice to muddle through / re-remember a few things.

Last night I thought I had a brilliant idea: the old MS-DOS WEP game "Chip's Challenge" as the basis for an oracle deck. The benefit would be the *instant* visceral knowledge players of this game have of each level's (1) challenge, (2) simplistic narrative, and (3) skill/solution.
Screenshot of Chip's Challenge game start screen level 19 "Digger," which anyone who played it can recognize for a shit show of plant monsters. Solution is to methodically collect all chips except the "door" blocking each monster and then blast through taking the door chips in a very specific sequence where you can unleash AND outrun the monsters.

My bookstore did not have Wearing the Lion but Someone You Can Build a Nest In is a delight; I can already tell I'm going to miss it when it's done.

(I also decided I'm allowed to be excited about two books right next to each other. Alison Bechdel was the first item, these are #2 & 3, IT'S FINE. 😅)
Two paperback books: The Fifth Head of Cerberus by Gene Wolfe and Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell. The 2nd book has a dramatic scene of a woman in a dress holding a lantern while a giant shadow of a toothy-grinning figure in a witch hat looms over her.

I stopped reading NYT news when it became apparent that "controversial" would be used in place of "illegal," "unconstitutional," & "fascist."

Uninstalling their games now is a petty, small thing. But really. ("Not in dictionary"? What could be more English?) 🙄

Wow, turns out I think I am much smarter, edgier, and motivated to do cool stuff than I am. Was sick for a week, so let's blame that 😂
Eliot Anderson from Mr. Robot. Eliot is a hacker and therefore required to wear a hoodie and slouch at all times. He is also neurodivergent (which grants him superhuman computer skills), has a drug problem, and often has a tenuous grasp on reality. He cares deeply about his family and unequal distribution of wealth under capitalism, and has an enviable ability to silently exit unenjoyable conversations. Doc Brown from the movie Back to the Future. The doctor is enthusiastic, and smart enough to transport human beings intact to their own past. He is also silly enough to wire anything to a delorean and to involve a highschooler in his adventures. Liz Lemon from the comedy sitcom 30 Rock. Liz is very funny and intelligent, and also extremely awkward. Her boss once overheard her singing "working on the night cheese" (she was eating cheese late at night), she has described bandana worn around the neck as a "sexy" accessory, and one of her main pieces of advice for a friend's future daughter was "put chips on a sandwich." Janis Ian from the movie Mean Girls. Janis is a disgruntled emo teenager who buys her clothes at Hot Topic, is kind to the main character, and hates the popular girls who used to be her friends.

The Stone Road by @trentonomicon.bsky.social was excellent, I loved every minute. It was creepy and visceral with a complex world that felt full of real people with their own stories. The characters don't always know why they make the decisions they do, and the story was tough & sad & 100% engaging.

"Jazz hands" donut-patterned lobster. Rare to see in the wild in such superb condition
