I know some members struggled to believe this could really be true earlier this week. But anyone who emailed a UCU staffer on strike earlier this week got an identikit out-of-office + deleted advice page + this email to #UCU staff sadly confirms this really happened.

Members back at work today after taking lawful strike action are now being threaten with disciplinary procedures if their auto-replies mention the reason for their absence during future strikes.

In what trade union world is this acceptable?

This was a terrible choice which has:
-worsened industrial relations
-directly undermined every #UCU member & branch in dispute
- directly undermines UCU's own advice & organising tactics
- is likely to further embolden post-16 ed employers to use more aggressive tactics citing 'well you do it'

I've now seen an email which essentially claims by putting info about being on strike into an autoreply (again: a tactic UCU has routinely advised us to use as members) that the staff doing so have caused UCU to disclose personal sensitive data. Let's compare this assertion to UCU's template:
