Big thank you to @filtermag.bsky.social for covering our recent work on the use of reagent test kits and fentanyl test strips among festival attendees in Colorado!
Most surveyed Sonic Bloom attendees indicated that they test “always” or “most of the time” before using substances.

This normalization is encouraging. Yet, “Access is still really difficult for people,” the lead researcher tells Sydney Sauer.

The paper suggests a number of ways to improve it:
Music Festival Attendees Embrace DIY Drug Checking Despite Barriers
Researchers provide encouraging evidence of the normalization of personal drug checking in these contexts. But needless obstacles remain.

All NIDA F31 diversity scholars officially losing their funding...

I barely have words.

Expected at this point but so so disappointing and unfair. We are effectively punishing some of America's best science students for telling the government they are from an underrepresented community.

This is such an important project that has informed SO MUCH substance use research. Its termination is thoughtless and will only prevent us from keeping up with current trends.
The entire National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) team at SAMHSA was terminated today.

Do not listen to the platitudes of this administration when they say they care about drug overdose, addiction, mental health, or suicide.

Out now in HRJ! People change behavior in response to drugs testing differently than expected or testing pos for fentanyl, but experience barriers to engagement w/ testing, like festival restrictions, sourcing, & social dynamics.

Somewhere in the U.S., there’s a scientist staring at their NSF/NIH grant application wondering why they bother. This post is for you. Science and society both need you. Hang in there and know there is a whole community supporting you.

One of the real problems is that too many people conveniently believe the opposite of diversity is merit, and the opposite of inclusion is high standards.

Yeah, that’s just not the case.

The NIH diversity supplement pages have all been pulled down. What is a diversity supplement and why should the public care? A diversity supplement is funding to help diversify the research workforce. You may be wondering, “so what?”. Let me explain. www.nigms.nih.gov/Pages/PageNo...
