I think some of it is right there is what you said. It's okay to admit we don't have all of the answers.

Kids want to feel secure, if adults can be wrong about something so fundamental,... I ended up growing up with trouble trusting authority

I'm glad for that in a way, my take is to explain exactly as much as they will understand.

Our kids' maturity level is a bit lower, the best I can do is relate it to something they saw in a movie or cartoon
