I ended up making this both with and without pears. They influence the flavour, but not enough to define it as anything truly special. Tastes just about as good with just apples and requires less hassle waiting for perfect pear ripeness.

I'm a sucker for a good cranberry bake. Excellent recipe.

Tucked amongst them is a small bag of sliced almonds to cap it all off. Also, my kitchen is a mess.
