Autism is also substantially (certainly not entirely) hereditary. That it persists, has persisted for millennia, says something important: It must be adapative, beneficial in some way, to individuals and/or to the whole. Ponder on that.
Autism isn’t an epidemic. It's not a disease. It’s a natural variation in how people think…which, frankly, is a relief in a world where most people don't think at all.

Autism is very complex with sevetal genetic factors making subtle but significant contributions: it is a spectrum. It has always been and increasing it is not, but for better understanding and diagnosis.
